giles spring 2010 triceratops handbag.

now i saw this bag on a post from jakandjilblog (http://jakandjil.com/blog/) but i completely forgot to post about it until today.

you gotta love this bag. it's the most adorably, trendy little thing. i know it's a little weird looking and may not fit a whole lot of stuff in it, but look at it! it's simply marvelous. i can totally see a bunch of trendy hipsters carrying this bag around to concerts or whatnot. or even little rich youngsters carrying these off to school or to the mall. i want one so badly but i doubt i'll ever be able to get my hands on one. i can't imagine what the price tag on one of these little darlings is like. oh well. one day maybe.

until than however, i'm hoping to make my own triceratops handbag. i found a diy on a website recently as i was looking for photos of the bag to post on the blog. here's the link to the diy:

http://www.styleite.com/runway/dinosaur-diy-the-giles-deacon-triceratops-bag/

it's rather brilliant actually. i hope to make one following these instructions very soon. i'll post right away once i'm finished!

urban renewal grommet denim vest.

i bought this vest from urban outfitters on sunday and i absolutely love it. i think it's my favourite purchase of the year so far! it was so cheap. the original price was $100 and the marked down price was $19.99! but when i got to the cash, the lady ended up charging me only $10 for the vest! i couldn't believe my luck. i think it was fate.

the vest is part of uo's urban renewal line. for those of you who do not know what this means, the line basically consists of clothes that the people at uo redesign into a brand new product that they can sell. in this case, they took a vintage levi's jean jacket, cut the sleeves off, made it into the vest, gave it a raw edge finish, and stuck some grommets onto the shoulders and back. so cute, right? now it's so modern and edgy. i wear it over my hoodies and flannel tops.

coco before chanel

watched coco before chanel tonight with some friends and loooooved it from start to finish. actually, to be honest, i didn't like the ending but whatever. i think i didn't like it because i liked the movie so much that i never wanted it to end. but every movie has to end, right? ok, i'm babbling now. LET'S TALK CLOTHES!

white quarter length shirts with black stripes, wide fit, high neckline. show off a bit of shoulder, but not off the shoulder.
trousers, black, beige, brown, white.
shapeless dresses
floral
straw hats
black mens fitted blazers
polos
riding suits
pearls
silk
white dress shirts with black buttons

the movie basically consisted of audrey tautou as coco chanel in simply these outfits and nothing else. she made everything look good, simple, effortless, lovely. her body is just so perfect for the clothes. thin, long neck, slender body, beautiful arms, very structured face. she pulled off boys clothes better than any boy out there. she's just so darn classy. she just screams classclassclassclassclass! i can't say enough about her. i could go on and on and on.

IT SHOULD HAVE WON BEST COSTUME DESIGN. DAMN YOUNG VICTORIA!

stop me now!

weekend haul.

sunday was a pretty boring, plain day. weather was shitty, yet again but at least it wasn't raining. with the clocks changed an hour, the day was wasting away and i really wanted to do something. going by queen street, i decided to make a swing by the beloved black market, infamous for their never-ending sale of everything for only $10, WHICH IS THE BEST.

i spent under an hour in there, and tried on a handful of items. i came out with 3 pretty good buys for under $35: an oversized sweater for the upcoming spring weather, a lovely girly lace top (i <3 lace) which doubles as a vest because it buttons all the way up at the back, and a nice simple black purse with a gold chain. i don't know why but i've always loved purses with gold chains. they make me think of chanel purses, something i will never ever be able to own myself :)

also, when i was buying my h&m dress for the ballet on friday, i quickly slipped inside of forever21 because i noticed the crowds that were pushing their way through the store from the windows outside. i came out getting this top for under $30. it's a size large but i like the oversized, baggy fit of it. i looooove the sleeves. i just love baggy, drapey sleeves. i have no idea why.

on saturday i had an appointment at the apple store because of a problem with my beloved macbook. once i was done there, i decided to buy a pair of spring boots from Spring. my flats that i had been wearing all weekend long had holes in the toes and heels and if anyone was in toronto for the weekend, they know that my poor feet suffered dearly. i ended up freezing my poor feet and throwing out a pair of tights from tearing holes in them. the second i got out of Spring, i threw my flats into my purse and headed out with my new boots on, a proud smile plastered to my face.

they're really, really adorable. shiny, black, laceups with a bit of a heel and a nice, easy zipper on the side for easy access. they were fairly expensive though. $69.99 plus a waterproof/shine wax which was $8. altogether, i spent about $79 but i think they're worth it.

no more spending or eating outside for pema from now until the school year is over. no worries though. only a month to go :)

swan lake.

this weekend was pretty eventful. i didn't do very much (haha fooled you!) but i did get my christmas present from my bf! you must be wondering, why pema did he wait so long to give you your christmas present? christmas was in december and it is now march 2010. well, that's because his present to me was two tickets to see the national ballet of canada perform swan lake :) ah, it was just so beautiful. i keep thinking back to friday night now, and all i can do is smile and sigh really, really loudly. we had pretty much the best seats in the entire place, too which wasn't too shabby ;)

we were lucky enough to be able to see the show performed by principal dancer xiao nan yu. she's the dancer in all of the posters for swan lake that have been posted up around downtown toronto. so beautiful, elegant, swan-lake. when she came onto the stage, my eyes just immediately fell upon her and no one else. nothing else that was happening on the stage mattered. she was just so captivating. and the way she moved her arms. it was exactly like a swan. she was flawless.

anyways, the reason why i'm telling you this is to share my dress that i bought for the show. the national ballet is a very posh and stylish place so i knew i had to look good. luckily, i ended up looking good and for cheap as well! i went to h&m and got this little number for under $40, which is pretty much amazing!

i felt pretty good walking around the place with that dress on. i think i can wear it any day as well, which is always handy.

the 82nd academy awards show review

i really didn't think the 82nd oscars were that good. i kept thinking about to last year, and hugh jackman's amazing opening act. the dancing and the singing. the opening act this year was just fine, just like last year's. seeing alec baldwin and steve martin come from the ceiling was entertaining. i thought everything was going really well until the monologue started, and the material was just not as funny as i wanted it to be. i was almost, like, forcing myself to laugh at their jokes because i wanted it so badly to be better than it was. i was so excited about the oscars all weekend long. once it arrived, it was sort of a let down.

oh well. at least the desses made up for it :) there were no dresses this year that were completely terrible and out of this world, nor was there any amazing, super fantastic dresses. everyone just looked good, and classy just like they're supposed to.

i especially loved anna kendrick's dress, rachel mcadams, demi moore, sandra bullock, i hate to say it but miley cyrus, cameron diaz (did anyone else think that her dress looked exactly like miley's from last year?), and kate winslet. i'm not even kidding when i say this, when i first saw kate winslet, i got chills. she looked absolutely fantastic. she's always a beautiful woman but last night she just looked amazing! i wasn't crazy about carey mulligan's dress or shoes, but her hair just looked so adorable on her. good choice, too. if she had worn that same outfit with her old, brown hair, i don't think she wouldn't looked as nice to be brutally honest. i still love her to bits though.

overall, the show wasn't as good as it was last year. the ending was way too rushed, and i think i will never see precious ever. i don't think i could see such a depressing movie. i cried just by watching the short clips from the movie that they showed. i will however see the hurt locker and the blinde side hopefully! i loooooove sandra bullock. she's just...ah, i don't even have words. she's a WOMAN, yeah, i think that's right.

xoxo

ps. HOW DID OPRAH GET HER SHOW AT THE KODAK THEATER THE DAY AFTER THE BLOODY OSCARS?! crazy crazy power she has over the world.

pps. HOLY SHIT BEN STILLER LOOKED SCARY LAST NIGHT IN THAT NA'VI MAKEUP. i thought i would have nightmares for sure...he was quite funny though ;)

toronto vintage clothing and textile show

http://www.torontovintageshow.com/

i have no idea why i haven't posted anything recently. i only just realized that its been way too long when i tried to sign into my account, and it asked for my e-mail and password haha usually the website just signs me in automatically. whoops!

so i dragged the boyfriend to the toronto vintage clothing and textile show today. not so much interested in the textiles, linens, or lace but the clothes were purrrrrty. i brought my huge camera bag to the show and ended up taking no pictures at all, which makes me wanna slam my face into the wall but oh well, what can you do about it now?

i didn't end up buying any clothes because i got to the show late so most of the cheap, affordable stuff was already gone and everything that was left over was extremely vintage, valuable and therefore extremely expensive. i ended up getting a beautiful wallet that i dug through a deep pile of old handbags for. it took me a while to realize that i actually loved it a lot and that i had to buy it right away. it was $10, who wouldn't buy it? it's adorable!

so many dresses, hats, gloves, accessories, bags, slips, fur coats. i wish i had more money...

i really wish the place was a bit more organized though. this was my only problem. everything was very crowded and it was hard (especially for me with my camera bag) to get through the crowds of people. there was so much i wanted to see but just couldn't because of how crowded everything was. everything would have worked so much better if the items were organized by category as well. if there was a section for hats, and another for bags, i think everything would have been easier to access i think.

i wonder how those sellers get a hold of all those clothes? and not just regular clothes, but extremely old and valuable clothes. some of the pieces that i saw, i was too scared to even touch them because just by looking at them, i knew they were from centuries ago. i didn't want to ruin anything. everything was just too beautiful to even wear, which i think is why i didn't end up buying any clothes.

everything there was lovely but just so expensiveeee. what i loved most about the show was how all of the pieces had little tags on them which described what year the piece was from and the style of it. it was both a fun and educational experience.

HERE'S THE LOVERLY WALLET I BOUGHT! DON'T YOU JUSE LOVE IT?!

the second i got out of the show, i raced to a table to unload all of my change and cash into my brand new/vintage wallet. i really do love it. excuse the blurry pictures, please. i still need to learn more about my camera.

it cost us $3 to take the subway there, $8 to get into the show, and $3 to go back. all proceeds from the tickets go to cancer research i think, which is great. i'm definitely going back the next time they come. i'll probably be in the line up early on next time though, for the better deals.

xoxo
